Prosthetics & Orthotics
A prosthesis is a device designed to replace a missing part of the body, or to make a part of the body work better. The metal prosthetic device for e.g. in knee or hip joint replacement; surgery replaces cartilage and bone which is damaged from disease or aging. Preparing for surgery and post-surgery massage is useful to reduce fluid build up and help you get moving easier earlier.
Orthotics are used to help support the biomechanics of the foot which in turn helps the alignment of other joints of the body. We often find the musculoskeletal system of the body is working extra hard trying to keep alignment. We can ease the workload and give exercises that can strengthen muscles and may reduce the need for the orthotics.
